After years and years of drinking Ferrari-Carano wines and hearing about this property, I finally made my way up to the dry creek valley where this property resides. It is the concept and dream of Don and Rhonda Carano, who had just returned from a trip to Italy and were visiting the dry creek valley, when they fell in love with the area and with wine. A small parcel of land and vines were purchased in the mid 80’s and the property has grown into a booming business today with 1400 acres planted on 19 different estates. The property is stunning and serene with lush gardens, waterfalls and views of mountains and hills all around.
Ferrari-Carano plants both red and white varietals and distributes many of their flagships wines across the country. Their wines include every varietal from Pinot Grigio to Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel. I was pleasantly surprised by a blended label consisting of mostly Sangiovese with a bit of Malbec, Petit Syrah and Cabernet. This is a vibrant and fresh wine that begs for traditional Italian food.
Ferrari-Carano features a reserve tasting room in their Enoteca in the lower level. Enjoy the Prevail and Tresor labels of red wine ranging from bordeaux style blends and reserve cabernet sauvignon.
You could spend an entire day at Ferrari-Carano. Even though it was drizzling and a bit overcast, I was in a trance from the moment I entered the property to the time I had to drive away.
