Lasagna Lunch at Naked Mountain Winery (Markham, VA)

Many wine lovers in the DC area only think of visiting the surrounding wine country in spring, summer and fall. I, on the other hand, can’t wait that long!  Did you know that wineries in Loudoun and Fauquier Counties host events and wine tastings all year round?

One such event I have been frequenting and enjoying for years is Naked Mountain’s lasagna lunch.  This Fauquier county winery tucked in the countryside of Markham, Virginia has been serving up lasagna lunches on the weekends for years. I missed this event the past couple of years but paid Naked Mountain a visit this past weekend. I never regret leaving the city noise and frenzy behind for a day amongst the vines, even Naked ones!  I was once again impressed with many of this year’s releases. I sampled everything from Petit Manseng, a new offering for this winery to Vidal Blanc, blends of Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Norton. A varied and respectable line up.

Naked Mountain is known for their barrel fermented Chardonnay which contains hints of oak on the palate without clubbing you over the head with it. The wine boasts of honeydew with crisp hints of pear and citrus on the finish. The price is right at $21.00 a bottle and will pair well with seared scallops, grilled fish or light pasta dishes with seafood.

If you have missed the lasagna lunch experience this winter don’t fret. You have two more weekends to take part in this unique and delightful adventure. You can enjoy homemade lasagna with a glass of wine and garlic bread for just $15.00 per person. If one glass is never enough then go for the two-person special which includes two lunches, garlic bread and a bottle of wine for  just $40.00.

Naked Mountain winery does not take itself too seriously but takes its wines seriously enough. Who doesn’t want to visit a place that includes a “fun clause” in its wine club membership benefits and encourages everyone to Drink Naked!
